The history of chocolate is a long one - dating back nearly 3,500 years ago when the cacao tree was first domesticated in the rain forests of Central and South America. Steeped in tradition, chocolate has been a part of the fabric of American lives for over 400 years. It was enjoyed at Winterthur among the du Pont family and their guests and is represented by various exquisite pieces in the Winterthur collection. Mars Chocolate Historian, David Borghesani, will walk us through the origins of chocolate, how chocolate is made, how it came to this country as well as share some fun – and edible! -chocolate facts.
